MCHS History

Founded in 1922 by consolidating several small, parish-run high schools, Memphis Catholic High School established its strong Catholic educational tradition of imparting knowledge, providing inspiration, and developing character within the context of loving and enriching diversity. Over the decades, this rich tradition has been realized, and is still alive today.

Throughout all of the generational changes, Memphis Catholic High School has maintained integrity. This integrity goes beyond the factual knowledge that students unfailingly learn in the classroom and extends to the beautiful Christian lessons learned in loving community. His Holiness, Pope John Paul II, poignantly summarized this mission of Catholic education:

“Community is at the heart of all Catholic education, not simply as a concept to be taught, but as a reality to be lived. Your students will learn to understand and appreciate the value of community as they experience love, trust, and loyalty in your schools and educational programs, and as they learn to treat all persons as brothers and sisters created by God and redeemed by Christ.”
