Campus Ministry

The Campus Ministry program at Memphis Catholic is an extension of the Mission of Memphis Catholic High School and Middle School: Campus spiritual life is made to come alive. The main emphasis of this program is to encourage students to get involved in leadership by becoming active in the tasks of spiritual growth, not only for themselves, but also to encourage their fellow classmates.

As peer ministers, the students on the Campus Ministry team are involved in every aspect of the spiritual and liturgical activities at Memphis Catholic and are encouraged to be active in their own places of worship as well. They are encouraged to take leadership responsibilities in many areas, but especially in Church activities and prayer within their own home.

Some of the activities involved in being a member of the Campus Ministry Team include: singing in the choir at prayer services & Liturgy or any other activity required, reading (lectoring) at Liturgy, leading prayer at services or in classes at school, being active in the religious and spiritual activities at school and outside of school. For Catholic Seniors: serving as Eucharistic Minister and playing instruments at Liturgy.

Students who wish to serve on the CM team are asked to fill out an application and state why they would like to be involved in this effort. They are required to be at meetings, take an active part in planning, and be a Christian example to their fellow classmates.

Campus Peer Ministers are commissioned by the chaplain, Father Kevin Bravata, at the first Mass in September of the school year. They are given a cross to wear so that they will be recognized within the student body.

In keeping with the mission of Memphis Catholic, Campus Ministry is the best way that students can reach out to others and serve as Christian examples within their environment. The exhortation of Jesus Christ is foremost in the minds and hearts of us all: The first and greatest commandment is, Love the Lord thy God with your whole heart and soul, and the second is like unto this: Love your neighbor as yourself.
